Sides

I have been
To all four sides
Of this ocean

And what I have
Learned
Is that they all
Look the same

I am sorry
That I left you
To find that out.

You told me that
It would.
You scooped me
Up and whispered
That it would be
Just like
Seeing four different
Angles of a bathtub,
And I laughed
At the sureness
As you followed
Through with
Your argument
By slowly lowering
Us down
Into the steaming
Water
Nuzzling my neck
And asking
‘See, now what
Could be better
Than this?’

Now as I
Stand in a cold
Body of an open
Sea
It is nothing
Of what my
Expectations
Held it to be
And all I
Can do is
Think of you
Nuzzling my neck
As I whisper
My answer
Only the waves
Will hear
‘Nothing’.
