The First Dance

L.C. McQuillen

28.06.18

It is as if we are unwrapping each other.
Completely enamored in the process
Hands anxious,
But not reckless.

And as we unwind and reveal
There is laughter and tears, adoration, hesitancy
But mostly understanding.

And you, you scare me.
Because you are the first thing I see
When I dream of what my future might be.

And I don’t want to pull a wrong string
I want to unravel you deliberately
Cautiously.
Likewise, you to me

Because we see meaning within us
That serves more purpose than to rush
Not heeding healing, sloppily spilling our guts
And not being able to pick them all up
Simultaneously.

So just pick at me, and I’ll pry on you.
And as much as I desire you to rip
Off premature feelings
Just to know you deeply
You are more careful than I am with myself
Which is exactly what you know I need.

We dance this first song
Still stepping on each others feet
Feeling out the rhythms beat
Getting entangled as I twirl
Hearts swelling with ninety different emotions
Slowly, we unveil.
